Community Service
A robust program of service to the community provides each student with an understanding of important life issues and focuses them on the needs of others. Each class has an annual project that involves them in caring for others.  Recent examples include first grade students providing support to a local animal shelter, second grade students sponsoring the basic needs of a young girl in South America and writing letters to shut-ins, and eighth graders organizing a food drive for a local community center.  This Fall our student council sponsored a food drive to benefit a local food pantry in our community.

Recent Projects

Immaculate Heart of Mary students raised $240 during "Hats on Day."  Proceeds from the fundraiser were sent to The Foundation for Children with Cancer, a charitable organization that provides financial assistance to the families affected by childhood cancers

Immaculate Heart of Mary students organized a special spelling bee to raise money for survivors of the earthquake in Haiti.  Sponsors donated on a "per correct word" basis.  Even the preschoolers participated by coming up with rhyming words!

Jingle Bell Jog

Immaculate Heart of Mary students raced against the clock to raise money during the annual Jingle Bell Jog.  Sponsors pledge on a per lap basis and the funds are donated to the Holy Childhood Association. IHM raised over $3,000 for needy children as part of this event!

Hats and Scarves

Over the holiday season, Immaculate Heart of Mary schoolchildren collected hats, scarves and mittens for local children in need.

Senior Luncheon

Immaculate Heart of Mary Girl Scouts were Santa's helpers at the annual Knights of Columbus Senior Luncheon.  Local seniors were treated to lunch while the girl scouts sang holiday songs, helped Santa distribute goodies, and handed out ornaments the girls had made by hand.

Coat Collection

Immaculate Heart of Mary first-graders organized a coat collection for those in need. The coats they collected were distributed by Saint Mary's Outreach in Pompton Lakes.  Here the children display hand-made posters they designed in preparation for the drive.

Eva's Kitchen

The eighth-graders organized a banana collection for Eva's Kitchen in Paterson.
